Mount Glorious is situated less than 30 km northwest of the Brisbane CBD as the crow flies, or about 45km/50mins drive by road. It is a community of less than 300 residents, spread along 6km of Mount Glorious Rd and its side roads, and surrounded by the D'Aguilar National Park.
The local vegetation is a mix of subtropical rainforest and wet sclerophyll. At 650m above sea level, the micro-climate of Mount Glorious is generally 6 deg cooler than Brisbane, making it pleasantly cool in summer, and chilly in winter. Local accommodation businesses are popular in the winter, offering cosy accommodation with wood fires for those chilly winter nights. The National Park and surrounding areas are home to a wide variety of birds and native wildlife. There are a number of walking tracks and picnic areas Access to the mountain is via steep winding roads. Thick mist is common at any time of the year. Mount Glorious has one restaurant, one cafe, and a Community Hall. The village hosts the annual Art with Altitude exhibition in November. The two-day event features artists and craftspeople from Mount Glorious and Mount Nebo, together with market stalls and food and coffee. There are no shops, post office, fuel or ATM. As mobile reception is variable, there is a public phone next to the Mt Glorious Cafe. |
